Dr. Christoph Benn, MD MPH Lead Resource Mobilization

Dr. Benn is a Medical Doctor specialized in tropical medicine and public health with more than 30 years of experience in global public health. He is one of the founders of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and its former Director of External Relations for over 15 years during which he managed the first five replenishment cycles. Dr. Benn is currently the Director of Global Health Diplomacy at the Joep Lange Institute in Geneva, Switzerland where he focuses on developing sustainable health financing models and advocates to secure a financial and political commitment from donors, governments, and other parties

Anna Brezhneva Project Manager & EA to the CEO

Anna is a project management specialist with experience in implementing international development initiatives across Africa, Asia and the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region. She was previously a Project Coordinator and an Institutional Strengthening Expert at the International Trade Centre (UN/WTO), where she worked on trade and investment-related technical capacity building projects. She has also worked on a number of consultancy and research projects, including for the World Bank, nonprofits and academia. Anna holds an MA in Development Studies from The Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland, and a BA from the University of Oxford, UK.

Dr. Amandeep Gill CEO/Project Director

Dr. Gill is an Engineer, Diplomat, and international learning specialist. He is the former Executive Director and co-Lead of the Secretariat of the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. Dr. Gill previously served as India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva and chaired the Group of Governmental Experts of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) on emerging technologies in the area of lethal autonomous weapon systems from 2017-2018. Dr. Gill has a BTech in Electronics and Electrical Communications from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and an Advanced Diploma in French History and Language from Geneva University. His Ph.D. degree from King’s College London focused on Nuclear Learning in Multilateral Forums.

Mandy Govender Engagement & Sustainability Lead

Mandy is a South African public health specialist with rich experience in digital health and public health across multiple African countries and Singapore. She was previously the Director of Operations for Digital Health at HealthEnabled and a Senior South African Programme Manager for Digital Health at Jembi Health Systems, where she supported the South African National Department of Health’s digital health strategy. She has an MBA and is currently working on her Masters in Public Health from the University of the Western Cape. Her interests focus around working out how public health innovations like digital health and Artificial Intelligence support the call for Universal Health Care.

Monika Herder Project Manager and EA to Director of Global Health Diplomacy

Monika is a German native with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and organizational and accounting experience in the Private Sector and Health NGOs. She has previously worked as a Financial Assistant at the World Heart Federation.

Elisa Mallaeva Project Officer, Resource Mobilization

Elisa is a French-Russian international relations specialist with experience in public outreach and resource mobilization in support of refugees (UNHCR) and people-centered digital health transformation (Transform Health). She is also a certified translator of English, Spanish, Russian and French. She has an MA in International Relations from the University of Geneva where she specialized in the history and geopolitics of Russia and East Central Europe.

Dr. Lipsa Panda Science Communications (Consultant)

Lipsa has a PhD in respiratory immunology from CSIR-IGIB but her interest in visual communication propelled her to pursue design and arts to engage people with Science. With this passion, she obtained a certificate in graphic design from Sri Aurobindo School of Arts and Communication and is now interested in communicating science with typography. Currently, she is working with Lancet Commission: Governing health futures 2030 as a visual science communicator. Out of her interest, she also conducts workshops for graduate students to teach them the art of communicating science visually in India.

Katja Roll Senior Advisor, Resource Mobilization

Katja is a political economist with global health experience from donor governments, civil society and multilateral organizations. She was previously the representative of Germany in the Strategy Committee of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Katja also headed the policy advisory programme on Global Health Funds at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). She started her engagement in global health with the foundation of the German civil society network on HIV/AIDS. Katja holds an MA in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and MA in Political Economy from the University of Hamburg.

Dr. Flavia Schlegel Senior Advisor Science Engagement

Dr. Flavia Schlegel has a distinguished international career which includes positions at the International Science Council and as a Science Diplomat in Washington DC/USA and in Shanghai/China. As the Assistant Director-General for UNESCO’s Natural Sciences sector, she shaped UNESCO’s response to multilateral development agendas such as the 2030 Agenda or the Paris Agreement. She also served as Vice-Director at the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, responsible for pandemic preparation, prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and bioethics. Dr. Schlegel holds a Medical Doctorate and a
Master’s Degree in Organizational Development. Her areas of expertise are public health, science diplomacy, international science cooperation for sustainable development, multi-actor governance, and partnership development.

Dr. Mehdi Snène Research and Development Director

Dr Snène is a Swiss-Tunisian computer scientist and digital health research leader with a rich clinical, neuroscience and Data science expertise. He founded and directed, since 2012, the Conscious Analytics System Laboratory at the University of Geneva (caslab). He has previously led and contributed to a wide range of digital health projects and clinical trials covering medical topics such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, cancer, comorbidity, CVD and diabetes. He has developed an award-winning patented medical device, designed to increase the well-being of dementia patients. Before joining I-DAIR, he was the technical project manager for the Human Brain Project at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), a billion euro project with more than 130 partners. He has a master degree from the Polytechnic School of Grenoble and completed his PhD from the University of Geneva in the area of Computer and Information Systems security in 2004.

Dr. Waruguru Wanjau Governance & Hubs Lead

Dr. Wanjau is a Kenyan doctor, global health, and health policy specialist with African health systems and management consulting experience. She worked as a doctor in rural Kenya. Dr. Wanjau previously consulted for the World Health Organization, was an Outreach Coordinator for Global Health Now, and a management consultant at Dalberg. She did her medical training at the University of Nairobi and earned her MPH in Health Systems and Policy from John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Peiling Yap Chief Scientist

Dr. Yap is a Swiss epidemiologist, born and raised in Malaysia and Singapore. She has research experience in neglected tropical diseases, infectious diseases and public health in China and other parts of Asia. Her recent research focused on using mixed methodology in implementing and evaluating both analog and digital public health interventions. Prior to joining I-DAIR, Dr. Yap worked as a Senior Epidemiologist at the National Center for Infectious Diseases in Singapore and as an Epidemiologist at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, where she also earned her Phd in Epidemiology.
